Children and Later Trails

This section is reserved for later-life child evidence. No later spouse, death, burial, obituary, probate, separate household, or descendant-line identification has been added here yet from direct records.

Connections to Other Barney Families

Henry S. Lightsey is part of the broader Primus and Silvia/Sylvia Lightsey cluster. The 1880 census directly identifies Henry as their son. Other Barney households currently treated as part of this cluster include Ceily/Celia Lightsey Davis (HH#9), Thomas Lightsey (HH#12), Philip Lightsey (HH#104), and Jasper Lightsey (HH#126). Sylvia’s maiden name remains unresolved; do not treat derivative claims such as Capers or Davis as established without direct support.

Research Notes

  • The 1870 Henry Litsey age is indexed as 10, not about 6; later records support about 1864-1865 birth, so the age discrepancy should remain visible.
  • The 1880 census gives Henry’s parents’ birthplaces as South Carolina; the 1900 and 1910 indexes give Henry’s parents’ birthplaces as Georgia.
  • Lucy’s maiden name, death, remarriage, or post-1910 trail has not been established.
  • Henry’s death date is not established. His absence from captured later trails does not prove a 1910-1920 death.
  • Mollie in 1900 is not safely identical to Basca in 1910.
  • Joseph’s absence from the 1910 household does not prove death; his adult Sumter County trail is now strong from 1917-1921, but his post-1921 fate remains unresolved.
  • Hordy/Hardie may connect to Howard Lightsy in Oklahoma City, but that trail needs additional proof.
  • Ephram in 1900 and Clenon in 1910 are not safely the same person, and the Alabama Leamon/Lemon O. Lightsey trail appears to be a different family.

Military Service

Vinson or Venson Lightsey, age four in the 1900 household, has a strong military-index lead in the Veterans Administration Master Index. That record names Venson Lightsey of Americus, Georgia, with death on 25 June 1919, aligning with the later Sumter County household trail. Because the captured index does not name parents or birthplace, it should be cited as a strong matching lead rather than final proof by itself.

Open Research Questions

  • Resolve the open items flagged in Research Notes above with direct records before expanding this household narrative.

Research Status

  • Status: Source-Researched, not Source-Exhausted.
  • Strengths: The 1880 census directly ties Henry S. Lightsey to Primus and Silvia/Sylvia Lightsey; 1900 and 1910 census indexes support Henry and Lucy as a continuing couple from Brooks County to Sumter County; tax digest evidence places Henry S. Lightsey in Morven District 660; Joseph, Jesse, and Venson now have strong adult/death trails.
  • Remaining cautions: Henry and Lucy’s deaths remain open; Lucy’s maiden name is unknown; several children have unresolved identity conflicts; Joseph’s post-1921 fate remains open; adult trails for Mollie/Basca, Hordy/Hardie, and Ephram/Clenon require additional direct records.
