Research edition: The intended scope of this website is to record the history of Barney from its formation through 1950, the latest federal census year for which individual household records are publicly available. As a work in progress, current research extends through 1910. Original records are used whenever available, but some identities, dates, relationships, and locations remain uncertain. Citations are reviewed continuously, and corrections will be made as stronger evidence is found. If you find an error or omission, please send the correction and any supporting information to the email address at the bottom of this page.
I grew up hearing stories from the second- and third-generation residents of Barney. It was a town full of character and characters. Sadly, nearly all of those voices are now gone.
My hope is that this website can help recover and preserve some of those stories before they are lost.
