Webb family

Ely (Eli) Webb is connected to Barney through Malinda Anthonette Webb Chambers. The 1860 and 1870 Lowndes County censuses place Malinda in Eli and Harriet Webb’s household. Her later death-record and obituary findings support the father–daughter relationship, graded strong probable.

Malinda married James Chambers in Lowndes County in 1873. Their 1900 Barney household included James G., William, Vesta, Rosa M., Henry J., and Mary A. Chambers. The household dossier also records a death-index entry for Vesta Campbell naming James Chambers and Malinda Webb as her parents.

Malinda’s 1933 obituary described her father as a pioneer citizen of Salem. Ely’s settlement date and land remain unknown. His reported ages also conflict between the 1860 and 1870 censuses; the younger Eli or Hill Webb in the family must be kept separate from the household head.

Evidence grades

  • Census- or vital-record supported: recent parent-child steps are named or placed in compatible households by census, marriage, death, or comparable records.
  • Secondary-supported: a compiled genealogy supplies one or more early generations while local records independently establish the people involved.
  • Strong probable: the relationship is well supported, but one part of the settler claim still lacks direct settlement-era proof.

Each generation is judged separately. Marriage, surname, proximity, or a shared household does not by itself establish descent.
