Newspaper and Public-Record Trail
This section flags public-record leads separate from the census table. The detailed discussion stays in the family narrative, research status, and source citations below.
1900 Census Household
Henrietta’s age reads 53 and Jack’s reads 25. Their birth entries are August 1846 and June 1874, respectively. These are the census readings; the later identification of Jack as James Jackson Joyce rests on the separate records discussed below. Children and Later Trails
This section is reserved for later-life child evidence. No later spouse, death, burial, obituary, probate, separate household, or descendant-line identification has been added here yet from direct records.
Family Narrative
The 1900 census explicitly places this as a White household, not a Black Barney household. Henrietta Elizabeth Rountree Joyce was born about 1846 and died in 1912. She was the daughter of Weston W. Rountree and Edith Elizabeth Folsom. Edith appears in the 1900 household as Henrietta's mother and connects the household to the Folsom-Rountree family.
Henrietta married William Washington Joyce, a Confederate veteran of the 57th Georgia Infantry and son of James Jackson Joyce and Elizabeth Wells. Their son George S. Joyce is HH#186. The prior entry's Rountree/Folsom lineage is supported by FindAGrave memorials, death-record evidence for related family members, and compiled family sources, but the entry should separate primary records from secondary lineage summaries.
The known children of Weston W. Rountree and Edith Elizabeth Folsom include Henrietta Elizabeth Rountree Joyce, James Wesley Rowntree, George F. Rowntree, Noel Lester Rountree, William F. Rountree of HH#187, Hardy Vickers Rowntree, and Harriett B. Rountree Hitch. That sibling framework is useful, but some details rely on FindAGrave and compiled material rather than direct vital records.
Military Service
William Washington Joyce, Henrietta's late husband, is identified in the current family narrative as a Confederate veteran of the 57th Georgia Infantry. Because he was not enumerated in the 1900 household, this should be presented as immediate family context rather than a 1900 household-member line item unless a later pass adds direct service-file citations.
Connections to Other Barney Families
HH#182 connects directly to HH#186 because George S. Joyce is Henrietta's son. It also connects to HH#187 because William F. Rountree is Henrietta's brother. Through Edith Folsom, the household belongs to the Folsom-Rountree-Joyce network that overlaps with Brooks, Lowndes, Berrien, and Colquitt counties.
Research Notes
- Jack Joyce has now been identified as James Jackson Joyce through the 1880 James J. Joyce childhood census, the 1900 Jack Joyce household, the 1910 Barney census, probate records, and Find a Grave. A direct marriage certificate to Emma Eugenia Walker remains preferred if available.
- Henrietta's death and burial are supported by FindAGrave/compiled material; an original death, obituary, probate, cemetery, or church record should be located if available.
- Weston Rountree and Edith Folsom's marriage and full child list need primary or near-primary citations beyond memorial and compiled sources.
- Any Folsom estate or probate material used to connect the network should be cited directly rather than through a family-tree summary.
- If the only support for a lineage detail is FindAGrave, Geneanet, Ancestry tree, or a compiled family book, keep it labeled as secondary.
Online exhaustion update
The Jack Joyce gap is closed to a source-researched standard as James Jackson Joyce, born 7 June 1874 and died 31 July 1912, with 1880, 1900, 1910, probate, and Find a Grave records. The broader Rountree/Folsom lineage remains partly secondary because the online pass did not locate original marriage/probate documentation for every compiled relationship. Those lineage details should stay labeled secondary unless the underlying original record is reviewed.

Research Status
Source-exhausted for available online sources. The 1900 household, race classification, Henrietta-Edith relationship, Jack/Jackson Joyce continuation, and connection to HH#186/HH#187 are supported. The remaining Rountree/Folsom lineage details are secondary or compiled unless tied to specific original records.

Probate citation correction, September 20, 2026: the formerly cited related result 8635:91604 is a Chatham County will index. Its underlying pp. 500–501 record James J. Joyce's will executed November 26, 1913, naming wife Ellen C. Joyce. It is not the 1912 Brooks probate instrument and is excluded from this household's supporting evidence. This citation correction does not change the separately researched Jack/James Jackson census identification. Chatham original, image 005760087_00289.
