Family Narrative
The HH#154 head is best treated as Joe Pedleton in the 1900 Barney census, later appearing as Joe Pendleton, J. C. Pendelton, and Joseph Cury Pendleton. The identification rests on the repeated pairing with wife Ida, the same Georgia birthplace pattern, a consistent Black household context, and a migration trail from Brooks County, Georgia, into Florida.
The strongest spouse anchor is the original Brooks County marriage-license image for Joe Pendleton and Ida Donaldson. The license was issued 16 August 1897, and the marriage certificate says Joe Pendleton and Ida Donaldson were joined in matrimony on 20 August 1897 by W. M. Crittenden. This directly confirms the spelling "Joe Pendleton" in the marriage record and removes the earlier uncertainty created by the "Goe Pendleton" index variant. The 1900 census reports Joe and Ida as married for about three years, which fits this record. Ida's full later name appears in the Florida Death Index as Ida Violet Pendleton, but the current trail does not include a death certificate naming her parents.
The family remained in Brooks County through at least 1910. In 1910 Joe Pendleton was enumerated at Tallokas as a turpentine worker with wife Ida and children Georgie M., John, Annie Lee, and Ado. The 1910 Ancestry detail page also gives Georgie M. as "Georgine M Pendleton", age 9, born about 1901 in Georgia. This is the only later online documentation currently found that may relate to Morrie, the infant daughter in the 1900 household, but the name and age do not line up cleanly enough to merge them without caution. By 1920, Joe and Ida were in Parrish, Manatee County, Florida, with Lela, John, Ada, Lois, and boarder Hazel. John and Ada/Ado appear to bridge the 1910 and 1920 households, but the remaining children need separate adult-record work before their later lives can be stated confidently.
Joe and Ida were in Hillsborough County, Florida, by 1940. The 1940 census also reports their 1935 residence as Seffner, Hillsborough County. In 1950 they were in Alachua County, Florida, where Joe was enumerated as J. C. Pendelton and marked unable to work. Florida death-index evidence places Ida Violet Pendleton's death in Alachua County in May 1956 and Joseph Cury Pendleton's death in Alachua County in February 1960. Preserved death-index images support both entries; no full Florida death certificate for either person is available online in the current trail.
Joe's exact birth year remains approximate. The 1900 census gives the most specific date, May 1875, while later censuses imply about 1872, 1871, 1874, and 1880. His parents are reported only as Georgia-born in the census trail; no parent names have been identified in the records now used.
Frank Pedleton's relationship is important but unresolved. The 1900 census calls him Joe's stepson, which means he was likely Ida's child before her marriage to Joe. That does not by itself prove Ida had a prior legal marriage, nor does it identify Frank's father. No additional online record for Frank has been found in the current trail. Morrie Pedleton appears only in the 1900 household under that name; Georgie M./Georgine M. Pendleton in 1910 is the only later online candidate presently noted, but the identification remains unresolved.
Connections to Other Barney Families
No direct connection to another Barney household has been established in the current trail. Ida's Donaldson surname may connect to Brooks County Donaldson families, but no specific link is proven in this entry.
Research Notes
- Joseph Cury Pendleton's full Florida death certificate, likely requiring an offline/order request; no certificate image is available online in the current trail.
- Ida Violet Pendleton's Florida death certificate, especially for parents, maiden name confirmation, informant, burial place, and residence.
- Burial records, cemetery registers, funeral-home records, or obituaries for Joseph and Ida in Alachua County.
- Earlier records for Joe/Joseph Pendleton before 1900, including a possible 1880 childhood household and parentage.
- Earlier records for Ida Donaldson before 1897, including a possible 1880/1885/1890s Brooks County Donaldson household.
- Clarification of Frank Pedleton's parentage and whether Ida had a prior legal marriage or another earlier relationship.
- Later records for Frank; evidence clarifying whether 1900 Morrie Pedleton and 1910 Georgie M./Georgine M. Pendleton are the same child; and later records for Annie Lee, Ado/Ada, Lela, John, Lois, and Hazel.
- Direct evidence for any Donaldson or Pendleton connection to other Barney households.

Research Status
- Status: Well-researched online census trail with original marriage-license evidence. Not source-exhausted because the current entry still needs death certificates, burial records, parentage evidence, and adult records for several children.
- Strengths: Strong 1900 household anchor; original Brooks County marriage-license image directly confirms Joe Pendleton and Ida Donaldson, with license dated 16 August 1897 and marriage performed 20 August 1897; coherent 1900-1950 Joe/Ida census trail; Florida death indexes supply later names and death months/places.
- Remaining cautions: Death indexes are not substitutes for death certificates; parent names are unknown; burial places are unknown; Frank's father and Ida's pre-1897 status remain unresolved; no additional online record has been found for Frank; Morrie in 1900 may relate to Georgie M./Georgine M. in 1910, but this is not proven; several children have only one census appearance in the present trail.
