Family Narrative
- Head: Henry Jackson, recorded in 1900 as a day laborer in a saw mill
-
Second person in the household: Thomas Jackson, age 18, born in Florida
-
A user-supplied 1900 census detail screenshot places Henry Jackson in Barney, Brooks County, Georgia, on sheet 2, dwelling 44, family 44.
- That 1900 record shows Henry Jackson as a 28-year-old Black male born in Feb 1880 in Georgia, single, and working as a day laborer in a saw mill.
- The same record reports that Henry and both of his parents were born in Georgia; that he could not read or write but could speak English; and that the household lived in a rented house rather than on a farm.
- The 1900 census places Henry Jackson in a two-person household with Thomas Jackson, age 18, listed as partner.
- A user-supplied Thomas Jackson detail screenshot from the same household shows Thomas as a Black male born in Mar 1882 in Florida, single, working as a day laborer in a saw mill, with both parents also born in Florida.
- The Thomas Jackson detail view confirms the same sheet, dwelling, family number, and relationship label for the shared Barney household.
- The Ancestry detail view also preserves a bracketed alternate reading for Henry as "Heuriat Jackson."
- A user-supplied possible 1910 census candidate for Thomas Jackson places a Black male identified as Thos L. Jackson, age 28, born in Florida to Florida-born parents, in Quincy, Gadsden County, Florida, as a married farm laborer who could not read or write. That candidate is plausible on age and birthplace grounds, but it shifts from sawmill labor in Barney in 1900 to a married household in Quincy in 1910 and is not yet securely bridged to the Barney Thomas Jackson.
- No later record cited here establishes the relationship between Henry and Thomas.
- The current draft also preserves a negative Brooks County FindAGrave search.
Connections to Other Barney Families
- Possible Jackson-family link to HH#159 Thomas Jackson: Earlier candidate work suggested a possible later connection to HH#159, but no direct bridge record yet supports that identification.
Research Notes
- The census relationship “Partner” does not establish either kinship or non-kinship.
- Both men were recorded as sawmill laborers. The shared occupation does not establish that they worked for the same employer or formed a business partnership.
- No verified 1910 or later census chain is preserved here for Henry Jackson or Thomas Jackson. A possible 1910 Thomas Jackson candidate in Quincy, Gadsden County, Florida, is now noted, but it remains unproven.
- The current file does not preserve marriage, death, burial, land, probate, church, or employment records for either person.
- The earlier mention of possible later candidates, including J. D. Jackson variants and HH#159 Thomas Jackson, should remain tentative unless direct bridge records appear.
- A negative FindAGrave result is useful as a search note, but it is not evidence of identity or later migration.
Open Research Questions
- Parentage audit: confirm both parents of the household head for HH#44 through direct or near-direct records where possible; mark derivative-only parent links as unresolved until supported.
- Child census audit: confirm every child named in the 1900 household against later census, marriage, death, obituary, cemetery, probate, or draft records; separate proven child links from same-name candidates.
- Other household member audit: verify boarders, servants, in-laws, stepchildren, grandchildren, and unrelated residents in HH#44; document the exact relationship instead of assuming kinship.
- Spouse and marriage audit: locate marriage records, death records, divorce records, or later census records for spouses or absent spouses tied to this household.
- Direct image review: re-check the 1900 census image and any cited index-only sources before treating ages, relationships, birthplaces, or name spellings as final.
Research Status
- Status: Partially researched household with a substantially better 1900 anchor but no verified continuity beyond that census.
- Strengths: The entry now preserves Henry Jackson's age, birth month and state, marital status, literacy profile, rented-house status, and sawmill occupation, while also preserving Thomas Jackson's age, birth month and state, Florida-born parents, single status, matching sawmill occupation, and the shared relationship label.
- Remaining cautions: The relationship label for Thomas still needs careful interpretation, and neither person yet has a preserved later-life record chain in this entry. The possible 1910 Quincy Thomas Jackson is worth keeping as a lead, not as a confirmed continuation.
