Household #159: Jackson, Thomas

Back to the 1900 Census & Household Index

In the 1900 Barney census, Thomas Jackson headed a 5-person household. The table summarizes the census entries, with uncertain readings noted below.

Household Snapshot

Thomas Jackson headed a 5-person household in the 1900 Barney census with 1 spouse or marital partner and 3 children.

Thomas Jackson's employment is unresolved. An annotation obscures his occupation entry; the underlying word may be Farmer, but it is not securely readable.

All listed household members were reported as born in Georgia.

Newspaper and Public-Record Trail

This section flags public-record leads separate from the census table. The detailed discussion stays in the family narrative, research status, and source citations below.

Children and Later Trails

This section is reserved for later-life child evidence. No later spouse, death, burial, obituary, probate, separate household, or descendant-line identification has been added here yet from direct records.

Connections to Other Barney Families

  • Lizzie Howell Jackson connects this household to the Howell surname cluster, especially HH#160 Robert Howell. The exact Howell relationship still needs direct-record proof.
  • The 1920, 1930, and 1950 Frances/Francis Woods trail connects the 1900 daughter Francis/Frances Jackson to Colquitt County. The child marriage records support the Will and Frances Woods family cluster, and the 1950 household is important because Lizzie Jackson is listed as Frances's mother.

Research Notes

  • Joe Jackson and Thomas Jackson Jr. are confirmed in the 1900 household, but they do not yet have secure adult trails. The Joseph/Nancy and Tom/Julia Brooks County clusters are researched suspects only; the Ancestry Joseph SSACI hit is rejected for now because it names mother Molly Watkin, and the Ancestry 1920 Pike County Thomas/Julia lead needs a bridge before use.
  • The 1922 Atlanta death record for Thomas H. Jackson fits the birth range, race, and parent-name pattern, but the Atlanta death location remains a caution until a direct Brooks County-to-Atlanta link is found.
  • The 1880 Columbus/Muscogee County Thomas Jackson record supports the parent-name chain but is geographically distant from Barney and Brooks County.
  • Older notes mentioned an 1885 Florida state-census lead for a married Thomas Jackson in Leon County. That lead has not been refreshed in the current extract file and should not be used as evidence without a direct citation.
  • Lizzie Jackson's 1954 Colquitt County death-index entry is useful, but a full certificate or obituary would be needed for family relationships.
  • Frances/Francis Jackson Woods has a strong indirect trail through her household and children, but her own marriage, death, or burial record is still missing. Ancestry's 1923 Detroit Frances James/Jackson marriage lead is rejected because it names parents Bowie and Rena Jackson and spouse Will Thompson.

Open Research Questions

  • Resolve the open items flagged in Research Notes above with direct records before expanding this household narrative.

Research Status

  • Status: Source-Researched / not source-exhausted.
  • Strengths: Direct or indexed FamilySearch records support the 1891 Thomas Jackson-Lizzie Howell marriage, the 1900 and 1910 Brooks County household trail, Lizzie Jackson's later widow trail, and the Frances/Francis Jackson Woods identification through census records, child marriage records, and a child NUMIDENT record.
  • Remaining cautions: Joe Jackson and Thomas Jackson Jr. remain unresolved after 1900 even after Ancestry review. Lizzie's death entry is an index without family relationships. Frances Woods's own direct marriage or death record has not been pulled. The 1880 and 1922 Thomas identity chain is plausible but still geographically broad.
