Children and Later Trails

This section is reserved for later-life child evidence. No later spouse, death, burial, obituary, probate, separate household, or descendant-line identification has been added here yet from direct records.

Connections to Other Barney Families

  • Possible connection to the William Jefferson Rogers and Nancy Baker family is supported by John's death certificate naming Wm Rogers and Nancy Baker as parents, but broader sibling claims should remain provisional because the derivative Rogers family reconstruction has known conflation issues.
  • The 1880 household places John M. Rogers in Mary Newton's household as "brother-in-law." That relationship is unresolved and does not prove Martha Akridge was Martha Newton.

Research Notes

  • Locate Martha Akridge/Akerage/Alkridge Rogers's death or burial record and any parent-naming record.
  • Resolve whether Lonnie Rodgers is the John Rogers child enumerated in 1880, or a separate son.
  • Strengthen the already-strong adult bridge for Janey/Jennie/Janie/Laura J. Rogers with an obituary, death image, or other record that explains or resolves the 1930 J. H. Pilcher/Jennie Rogers marriage-index age discrepancy, and confirm Annie L. Clifton's parents.
  • Trace Fanny Rogers and the younger John Rogers after 1880; the examined 1880 mortality-schedule Fanny Rogers lead is likely a non-match unless contrary evidence appears.
  • Mattie Rogers Davis is now strongly identified through the 1921 newspaper father bridge and later Jesse/Mattie Davis census trail; remaining ideal proof would be a parent-naming death, burial, or obituary record.
  • Viva Rogers Davis is now strongly identified through the 1922 newspaper father/place bridge and strengthened by 1930/1940 Thomasville census continuity with Clinton D. Davis; remaining ideal proof would be a parent-naming death, burial, or obituary record.
  • Identify John's unnamed spouse implied by the 1920 married status, if that census status was accurate.

Open Research Questions

  • Resolve the open items flagged in Research Notes above with direct records before expanding this household narrative.

Research Status

  • Status: Source-researched, not source-exhausted.
  • Strengths: 1872 marriage record, 1880-1930 census trail, John M. Rogers death certificate, Henry T. Rogers death certificate, Laura J. Rogers Pilcher parent-naming death record, pulled FamilySearch image/extract trail for Annie L. Clifton in the 1910 household, pulled 1930 J. H. Pilcher/Jennie Rogers marriage extract plus live FamilySearch/Ancestry 1930/1940 Pilcher census follow-up strengthening the Pilcher bridge, 1921 newspaper father-bridge evidence plus 1930/1940/1950 census continuity for Mattie Rogers Davis, pulled FamilySearch image/index evidence for the Viva Rogers/C. D. Davis marriage, a 1922 newspaper father/place bridge for Viva Rogers Davis, and 1930/1940 Thomasville census continuity for Viva/Viva V. Davis with Clinton D. Davis.
  • Remaining cautions: Martha's parents are unknown; the Newton connection is unproven; John's broader Rogers lineage beyond the parent names on his death certificate depends partly on derivative/conflicted tree work; several child trails remain incomplete.
