Family Narrative

  • Census page: 2 | Lines: 39-43
  • Head: Benjamin F. Bridges appears in the 1900 Barney census as age 33, born May 1867 in Georgia, working as a lumber inspector. The 1910 census gives age 42 and birth year 1868, which is close but not perfectly aligned.
  • 1880 anchor: enumerated in Dooly County, Georgia, dwelling 519, as "Benjamine Bridges", age 12, son in the household of J. W. Bridges and Lidia Bridges.
  • Wife: Annie Bridges / Annie R. Bridges appears with Benjamin in both 1900 and 1910. A user-supplied Dooly County marriage certificate identifies her as Annie Aldridge.
  • Marriage record: Dooly County, Georgia, certificate for "B. F. Bridges" and "Annie Aldridge", dated 3 Oct 1891, with the marriage held 4 Oct 1891.
  • Marriage timing: the 1900 census reports marriage year 1891; the 1910 census reports 18 years married.

Children currently attributed to the household: - James Bridges, age 6 in 1900, is now well traced as James E. Bridges. User-supplied records place him in Columbia County, Florida, in 1920; Jacksonville, Duval County, in 1930 and 1940; Atlanta, Fulton County, in 1950; and Ormond Beach, Volusia County, by his 1975 Find a Grave memorial. Across those later records he appears with wife Nettie H. Bridges and children including James E. Bridges, Ann Bridges, and John H. Bridges. - William Bridges, age 4 in 1900, is well supported as William N. Bridges. His 1954 North Carolina death certificate gives birth on 10 Sep 1894 at Unadilla, Georgia, residence at Starke, Bradford County, Florida, father "B. F. Bridges", mother "Annie Aldridge", and burial at Lake City, Florida. A 1954 military headstone application adds WWI service details, confirms burial at Memorial Cemetery in Lake City, and names applicant Mrs. Edna Bridges of Gainesville, Florida. - Wilmer Bridges, age 5/12 in 1900, appears in the user-supplied screenshot as "Daughter". No stronger later record has been located in the present file set, so that reading remains the most cautious treatment. - Ben F. Bridges Jr., age 4, appears in the 1910 household. - Benjamin Aldridge Bridges, born 1 Aug 1905 in Dooly County, appears consistent with the 1910 "Ben F Bridges Jr" entry, but the present materials still do not prove that the two names belong to the same person.

Working reconstruction of family context: - The entry currently identifies Benjamin as a son of Joseph W. Bridges and Lydia A. Sutton Bridges of Dooly County, Georgia. - It also attributes siblings Sarah Bridges, William Bridges, Jefferson Davis Bridges, and Edwin C. Bridges to the same family cluster. - Those relationships may be correct, but the sources cited here do not yet provide the direct evidence needed to treat every kinship link as verified.

Life course reflected in the present evidence base: - 1880: Benjamin appears as a 12-year-old in Dooly County, Georgia, in the household of J. W. and Lidia Bridges. - 1900: Benjamin appears in Barney, Brooks County, Georgia, working as a lumber inspector. - 1910: Benjamin appears in Wadesboro, Leon County, Florida, working in saw milling; the household also includes Annie R. Bridges, their children, and Elizabeth Aldrige, listed as "Mother". - 1919: Find a Grave memorial 132464930 gives death on 25 Oct 1919 and burial at Florida State Hospital Cemetery, Chattahoochee, Gadsden County, Florida. A user-supplied Florida death index page also includes "Bridges, Ben F." in Gadsden County in 1919, giving derivative index support for the same death timeframe and place. - 1920-1950: James E. Bridges can be followed through successive census records from Columbia County to Jacksonville and then to Atlanta, showing a stable later-life trail well beyond the 1910 household. - 1954: William N. Bridges's death certificate, Find a Grave memorial, and military headstone application show that another son also remained traceable into mid-century records, strengthening the Florida continuation of this family line after 1910.

Interpretive notes: - The migration pattern from Dooly County to Brooks County and then into Florida is plausible and consistent with the current summary, but it should still be treated as a reconstruction drawn from the sources listed below rather than as a fully closed proof statement. - The earlier completion language overstated the current evidence state. This entry is better understood as a strong working profile pending fuller citation cleanup.

Military Service

William N. Bridges, the four-year-old son in the 1900 household, is tied to a 1954 military headstone application that gives service details and confirms burial at Memorial Cemetery in Lake City, Florida. The headstone application strengthens the adult identification of the child, though the page should continue to cite the application rather than expanding the service story beyond the preserved record.

Open Research Questions

  • Parentage audit: confirm both parents of the household head for HH#19 through direct or near-direct records where possible; mark derivative-only parent links as unresolved until supported.
  • Child census audit: confirm every child named in the 1900 household against later census, marriage, death, obituary, cemetery, probate, or draft records; separate proven child links from same-name candidates.
  • Other household member audit: verify boarders, servants, in-laws, stepchildren, grandchildren, and unrelated residents in HH#19; document the exact relationship instead of assuming kinship.
  • Spouse and marriage audit: locate marriage records, death records, divorce records, or later census records for spouses or absent spouses tied to this household.
  • Direct image review: re-check the 1900 census image and any cited index-only sources before treating ages, relationships, birthplaces, or name spellings as final.

Research Status

  • Evidence-status note:
  • This HH#19 entry now has direct screenshot support for the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses, the marriage certificate details, Ben F. Bridges's burial and death-index support, James E. Bridges's later census and memorial trail, and William N. Bridges's later death, memorial, and military-marker evidence. The main limits are straightforward: no direct death or hospital record has been located for Benjamin, no stronger later record has been found for Wilmer, and the present file set still does not prove that Ben F. Bridges Jr. and Benjamin Aldridge Bridges are the same person.
