Family and settler connections
George Alderman
Path: George Alderman → William Alderman → James Carlton Alderman
Grade: Strong Probable
Evidence: James Carlton Alderman's death certificate names William Alderman as father, and the 1860 census places James in William's household. The 1850 family reconstruction and Aldermans in America identify William as George Alderman's son. Huxford names George among the 1827 settlers.
Open issue: The George > William step should be strengthened with probate, guardianship, or a parent-naming deed; George's exact arrival year remains retrospective.
Evidence grades
- Census- or vital-record supported: recent parent-child steps are named or placed in compatible households by census, marriage, death, or comparable records.
- Secondary-supported: a compiled genealogy supplies one or more early generations while local records independently establish the people involved.
- Strong probable: the relationship is well supported, but one part of the settler claim still lacks direct settlement-era proof.
Each generation is judged separately. Marriage, surname, proximity, or a shared household does not by itself establish descent.
