Newspaper and Public-Record Trail

This section flags public-record leads separate from the census table. The detailed discussion stays in the family narrative, research status, and source citations below.

1900 Census Household

Name Relation Age Birthplace Occupation

Lucy Stewart Wife 45 Georgia —

Children and Later Trails

No child-tracking items are open for this page because the 1900 table lists no children in the household.

Family Narrative

Malory/Mallory Stewart was born about May 1850 in Georgia and appears in the 1900 Barney census with wife Lucy. Both were Black, both reported Georgia-born parents, and both were unable to read or write. The census reports that Lucy had borne no children, leaving no direct descendant trail to follow.

Two Brooks County tax-digest entries support a Brooks County presence before 1900: Mallory Stewart in the 1883-1887 digest and Malory Stewart in the 1895-1898 digest. These records place him in Brooks County across the period when no 1880 census match has been found.

A 31 March 1907 Macon Daily Telegraph item names Mallory Stewart in Macon, Georgia. That is the last known record in the current entry. Neither Malory nor Lucy has been found in 1910 or 1920 census searches, Georgia death-index searches, or the available FamilySearch tree material beyond a minimal profile.

Connections to Other Barney Families

No family connections have been proved. The household appears to be a childless couple with a Brooks County tax trail and a later Macon lead. No direct tie to other Stewart households in the encyclopedia has been established.

Research Notes

  1. Malory's 1880 census, if extant, remains missing; continue variant searches for Malory, Mallory, Malachi, Mallery, Stewart, Stuart, and Steward.
  2. Lucy's maiden name, death, burial, or remarriage is unresolved.
  3. Bibb County/Macon city directories, tax records, court records, estate files, cemetery records, and death registers are the best next source targets after the 1907 Macon notice.
  4. A direct source is needed before concluding Malory died between 1907 and 1910; that remains an inference.
  5. The FamilySearch Family Tree profile is secondary/minimal and only preserves the 1900 census identity unless more sources are attached.

Online exhaustion update

The June 2026 pass exhausted available online census, death-index, tax, newspaper, and FamilySearch tree leads for Malory and Lucy. No 1880, 1910, death, burial, remarriage, estate, or city-directory continuation was located. The 1907 Macon notice remains the last known record; death between 1907 and 1910 is still an inference, not a proved fact.

Open Research Questions

  • Resolve the open items flagged in Research Notes above with direct records before expanding this household narrative.

Research Status

Source-exhausted for available online sources. The 1900 household and Brooks County tax trail are supported, but both spouses disappear after the 1907 Macon lead. Offline or courthouse-level Bibb/Brooks County sources are required to go further.
