Family Narrative

Pollie/Polly Flournoy was born in Georgia in the mid-1850s and died 6 August 1923 in Brooks County, Georgia. Her 1900 birth month and year are August 1852, while the 1870 census age of 14 supports a birth year around 1856. The 1910 age of 43 is inconsistent with the 1870 and 1900 records.

Pollie was the daughter of John and Hannah Flournoy. The 1870 Brooks County census places her in John Flournoy's household with siblings including Wesley Flournoy of HH#179. Her death record names Hannah Flournoy as her mother.

The 1900 and 1910 census records report 17 children born and 14 living. Her husband was absent from the 1900, 1910, and 1920 households. Social Security Applications and Claims records for Mattie Ella Johnson and Marlver Stuard connect Pollie to spouse Marlver Stuard, but no marriage record has been located.

By 1920 Pollie was a washerwoman in Barney, living with daughter Ella Franklin and three Robertson grandchildren: Harvy, May Bell, and Ethel Lee. Those grandchildren show that one of Pollie's daughters had a Robertson/Roberson connection, but the parent and husband have not been identified.

Connections to Other Barney Families

Pollie is part of the same Flournoy sibling network as Wesley Flournoy (HH#179), Elsie Flournoy, Elizabeth Flournoy, and other Brooks County Flournoy descendants. The family ties into the Lightsey-Flournoy-Davis-Betts cluster already documented elsewhere in the encyclopedia.

Research Notes

  1. Marlver Stuard's marriage, death, and whereabouts need direct records; current support comes from Social Security Applications material.
  2. Adult or death trails are still needed for Mary, Arthur, Lula, Thomas, Cora, Earnest, Moses, John, and Nettie.
  3. The parent of Harvy, May Bell, and Ethel Lee Robertson is unresolved; search Robertson, Roberson, Robinson, and variant Brooks/Lowndes/Colquitt records.
  4. Pollie's father is supported by the 1870 family placement but not named in the available death-index entry; image-level death-certificate review is still needed.
  5. If secondary trees supply the Robertson or Stuard connection, label them as secondary until a marriage, death, census, SS, or court record confirms the link.

Online exhaustion update

The June 2026 pass did not locate a direct Pollie Flournoy-Marlver Stuard marriage, a death trail for Marlver, or a source naming the Robertson grandchildren's parent. Mattie Ella Johnson is supported by Social Security Applications material naming Marlver Stuard and Pollie Flournoy. The remaining children and Robertson connection are exhausted in online indexed sources and should be pursued through local marriage books, church/cemetery records, probate, and courthouse material.
