Family Narrative

George A. Johnson (age 46 in 1900) - Full Name: George A. Johnson (middle name not confirmed; "A." from 1860 census and 1880 suggestion) - Born September 1853, Georgia (per 1900 census) - Died After 1910 (exact date not found in available records) - 1900 residence: The tenure entries read R and H, indicating a rented house; the mortgage column is blank. The occupation entry is obscured by an annotation. - Father was James C. Johnson (b. South Carolina) - Mother was Sidney L. Mims (b. Georgia, December 7, 1812 — died August 26, 1899) - Siblings: Paul Hamilton, Mary C. (Shockey), Sarah R., James D. (HH#172), Nancy E., John Calvin, and others - Grandparents: Rev. Paul Johnson + Mary Polly Hiers (connects to HH#170 and HH#144) - Key Relationship: George A. Johnson is the brother of James D. Johnson (HH#172), confirmed via 1860 census showing both in their father James C. Johnson's household

Roda (Rosa/Rhody) Ann Weeks. - Married November 14, 1886, Colquitt County, Georgia - Born ~1866, Colquitt County, Georgia - Father was Charles Weeks - Mother was Rhoda Weeks (maiden name unknown) - 1870 Census: Age 4, in father Charles Weeks' household, Colquitt County GA - 1880 Census: Age 14, in father Charles Weeks' household, Colquitt County GA (indexed as "Rhoda E. Weeks") - Name Variants: Roda (marriage cert), Rosa (1900 census), Rhody (1900 census), Rhoda (1910+ census, death record), "Rhodie E." (Oregon record — see below) - Note on "Lizzie Weeks": A Georgia death record for "Geo Johnson" (collection 2562) lists spouse as "Lizzie Weeks." Rhoda's middle initial "E." may stand for Elizabeth, with "Lizzie" as a nickname. Whether Lizzie is Rhoda's given name or a second wife after Rhoda's 1932 death remains unresolved. - Died May 19, 1932, Brooks County, Georgia (Certificate #13278)

  1. William Johnson — born ~1887, Georgia (age 13 in 1900; likely "Willie" age 23 in 1910)
  2. Nancy Johnson Hunt — born ~1889, Georgia (age 11 in 1900); died 7 May 1937 in Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia. Georgia death record names father Geo Johnson and mother Lizzie Weeks.
  3. James Pinkey Johnson — born ~1891, Georgia (age 9 in 1900; "James I" age 17 in 1910); died 21 January 1937 in Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia. Georgia death record names father Geo Johnson and mother Lizzie Weeks.
  4. Charley (Charlie) Johnson — born ~1897, Georgia (age 3 in 1900; age 13 in 1910)
  5. Daniel S. or Daniel Shepherd Johnson — born ~1899, Georgia (age 1 in 1900; age 11 in 1910); died 17 January 1969 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama. Alabama death/burial index names father George A. Johnson and mother Lizzie Weeks. Wife listed as Mary Ella Johnson.
  6. George Samuel Johnson — born ~1906, Georgia (age 4 in 1910 as "Samuel"). A likely adult trail exists for George Samuel Johnson, born 4 March 1906 in Colquitt County, later found in WWII draft, 1950 Portland, Oregon census, Washington marriage, Oregon death, and FindAGrave records, but no parent-naming record has been found to prove he is the 1910 child.

  12. Sibling Connection to HH#172: The 1860 census confirms George A. Johnson (age 7) in the household of James C. Johnson (age 42) and Sidney L. Mims (age 47), along with James D. Johnson (age 9). Both George and James D. are sons of James C. Johnson, making HH#172 and HH#173 sibling households. Both connect to Rev. Paul Johnson and Mary Polly Hiers (HH#170/HH#144) as grandparents.

  13. Wife's Family: Rhoda Ann Weeks was the daughter of Charles and Rhoda Weeks of Colquitt County. She appears in the 1870 census at age 4 and the 1880 census at age 14 in her father's household. The 1886 marriage in Colquitt County confirms the connection.

  14. County Migration: The family moved from Brooks County (1860-1900) to Colquitt County (1910), a shift of approximately 20 miles. The 1910 census in Robinson, Colquitt County is the last confirmed record.

  15. Name Indexing Variations: The surname appears as "Johnson," "Johhnson" (1880), and "Admson" (1910) across different records — these indexing errors are common for Johnson-family records in this precinct.

  16. Post-1910 Gap: The family has not been found as a complete household in the 1920 or 1930 censuses, nor has a death record been located for George A. Johnson. Rhoda's death record (May 19, 1932, Brooks County GA, Certificate #13278) confirms she survived George, but the timing of his death is unknown. The adult trails for Nancy Johnson Hunt, James Pinkey Johnson, and Daniel S./Shepherd Johnson are now supported by parent-naming death records or death/burial indexes. William, Charley, and George Samuel remain unresolved.

  17. Oregon Record Eliminated: An Oregon death record for "George A Johnson" with spouse "Rhodie E Weeks" and child "George Samuel Johnson" was investigated but eliminated. George would have been ~115 years old if he died in Oregon in 1968, making this a different person with coincidentally similar names.

Research Notes

  1. George A. Johnson death record, burial, obituary, probate, or cemetery source after the 1910 Robinson, Colquitt County census.
  2. 1920 census placement for George, Rhoda, and any remaining children, or negative-search notes explaining why no match is accepted.
  3. Marriage, spouse, burial, and census continuation sources for Nancy Johnson Hunt beyond the parent-naming 1937 Georgia death record.
  4. Marriage, spouse, burial, and census continuation sources for James Pinkey Johnson beyond the parent-naming 1937 Georgia death record.
  5. Marriage, census, burial, and obituary trail for Daniel S./Shepherd Johnson in Georgia/Alabama beyond the parent-naming Alabama death/burial index.
  6. Adult trails for William and Charley Johnson. George Samuel has a plausible Colquitt-born adult trail, but it still needs a parent-naming source before being treated as proved.
  7. Clarification of "Lizzie Weeks" on child records: whether this is Rhoda Ann Weeks under a nickname/middle name or a second wife.

Research Status

Source-researched, not source-exhausted. The George-Rhoda household, marriage, and pre-1910 census trail are supported by primary records. Nancy Johnson Hunt, James Pinkey Johnson, and Daniel S./Shepherd Johnson now have parent-naming adult/death records. June 2026 Ancestry and FamilySearch searches did not locate safe adult trails for William or Charley. George Samuel has a plausible Colquitt-born adult trail, but no parent-naming record was found. The household should not be called source-exhausted until George's death or disappearance, Rhoda's widowhood context, and the remaining adult trails are closed or documented as exhausted.
