Children and Later Trails
No children are listed in this household in the 1900 census table.
The 1900 name "Melis" is best treated as a phonetic or enumerator rendering of Giles/Miles. The surrounding record trail identifies the head as John Giles Ingram Sr. The household was newly married in 1900, so the later children are documented through subsequent records rather than through the Barney enumeration itself.
Family Narrative
Household identity and correction
John Giles Ingram Sr. was born in January 1879 according to the 1900 census. His World War I draft registration gives the fuller date 15 January 1879 and lists DeSoto County, Florida as birthplace. The federal censuses consistently place his birth in Georgia, so the Florida birthplace should be noted as a record conflict rather than resolved fact.
The identity chain is strong across the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1930, 1935, 1940, and 1950 records. In 1880 he appears as John G. Ingram, age 1, in the Berrien County household of John L. Ingram and Martha A. Ingram. In 1900 he appears in Barney as Melis Ingram with wife Della. In 1910 he is John G. Ingram in Robinson, Colquitt County, Georgia. Later records use J.G., John D., and John G. Ingram in Florida. The World War I draft registration supplies the full name John Giles Ingram.
John died in Hardee County, Florida, in 1950 and is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, DeSoto County, Florida. His Find a Grave memorial is #51109505.
Della Florence Kennedy Ingram
Della Florence Kennedy was born 17 November 1878 and died 26 June 1949 in Hardee County, Florida. She is buried with John at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, DeSoto County, Florida. Her Find a Grave memorial is #51260353.
Her maiden name is supported by the Social Security Applications and Claims Index entry for daughter Mildred Ingram Brewer, which identifies Mildred's parents as John G. Ingram and Della F. Kennedy. Della's parents were Samuel G. Kennedy, who died in 1879, and Mary A. D. Martin, who died in 1880. Two guardianship records document the Kennedy children after their parents' deaths: an 1880 Stewart County record and an 1886 Thomas County record. Those records place Della, also called Florence, among the Kennedy children.
John and Della married about 1899, based on the 1900 census statement that they had been married one year. No separate marriage record has been cited in this entry.
Children and later trails
The later family is well documented through census records and cemetery memorials. All ten children are identified in the current source trail.

Census and migration trail
| Year | Place | Evidence summary |
|---|---|---|
| 1880 | District 1311, Berrien County, Georgia | John G. Ingram, age 1, in the household of John L. and Martha A. Ingram. |
| 1900 | Barney, Brooks County, Georgia | Melis Ingram, 21, farmer, with wife Della, 20; married one year. |
| 1910 | Robinson, Colquitt County, Georgia | John G. and Della F. Ingram with children Ethell, Pearl, Berry, Solmon, Burnard Twinns, and Brannard Twinns; Joe Washington listed as boarder. |
| 1920 | Not located | The suggested Ancestry match at record 7708701 is a different John Ingram: Mulatto, age 48, in Coweta County, Georgia, with wife Delia. |
| 1930 | Iona, Lee County, Florida | J.G. and Dela Ingram with Bernard W., Brannon, Iris E., Mildred L., John, and Gaston C. |
| 1935 | Precinct 7, Hardee County, Florida | J.G. and Florence Ingram with Bernard, Harold, Mildred, J.G., and Guston. Birthplace is listed as Florida, probably an enumerator error for this family. |
| 1940 | Hardee County, Florida | John D. and Della Ingram with John D. and Gaston; the middle initial appears to be an enumerator error. |
| 1950 | Hardee County, Florida | John G. Ingram, widowed, living with daughter Mildred L. Brewer and son-in-law Woodrow M. Brewer Sr. |
Connections to Other Barney Families
John Giles Ingram was a son of John L. Ingram and Martha A. Ingram of Berrien County. The 1880 sibling group includes Icoum B. Ingram, George W. Ingram, Martha J. Ingram, William J. Ingram, William W. Ingram, Nancy P. Ingram, and John G. Ingram.
HH#168, Isom Barney Ingram, is the clearest nearby household connection. The 1880 census places Barney and John Giles in the same parental household, and Barney's 1906 obituary names G. W. Ingram of Adel as Barney's brother. This supports the John L. and Martha A. Ingram family cluster used in both HH#168 and HH#169.
Research Notes
- The 1920 federal census for John and Della has not been located. The rejected Coweta County candidate should remain excluded unless new evidence links it to this family.
- No marriage record for John Giles Ingram and Della Florence Kennedy is cited in this entry; the marriage date is inferred from the 1900 census.
- The Georgia-vs-Florida birthplace conflict for John Giles Ingram remains unresolved. The draft card gives DeSoto County, Florida, while the census trail gives Georgia.
- John L. Ingram's parentage remains undocumented in the current source trail.
- Martha J., William J., William W., and Nancy P. Ingram from the 1880 John L. Ingram household remain unidentified in this entry.
- The Kennedy guardianship records support Della's family background, but the wider Kennedy family of Stewart and Thomas counties can still be expanded if needed.

Research Status
- Status: Source-Exhausted for the John Giles Ingram household as presently defined.
- Strengths: The identity chain is supported from 1880 through 1950, with the 1900 Barney household tied to later records by name variants, spouse, age, migration pattern, draft registration, death index, Social Security Applications and Claims evidence, and cemetery memorials. Della's Kennedy maiden name is supported, and all ten children have later memorial or record support.
- Remaining cautions: The missing 1920 census, unresolved birthplace conflict, inferred marriage date, and open collateral sibling trails should stay visible. These do not prevent identifying the 1900 household, but they should not be treated as closed facts.
