Children and Later Trails
This section tracks later-life child evidence that is not already visible in the census table.
Adult-trail evidence currently supports the following: - Enoch Hall: Enoch Hall was already an adult in 1900 and was still living in Bolin and Julia Hall's household as a farmer. - Ann Hall: Ann Hall was an adult daughter in the 1900 household. The current local proof set has not yet tied her to a later spouse, death record, burial, or separate household. - Lorena Hall: Lorena Hall was an adult daughter in the 1900 household. Her later trail still needs direct-record work before the page can safely identify a spouse or death record. - Florence Hall: Florence Hall was an adult daughter in the 1900 household. The current local proof set does not yet provide a safe later-life identification. - Thomas Hall: Thomas Hall was an adult son in the household and was listed as a farm laborer in 1900. His later trail still needs direct-record support. - Ophelia Hall: Ophelia Hall was an adult daughter in 1900. The current local proof set has not yet closed her adult trail. - John Hall: John Hall was a young adult son in the 1900 household. A later adult trail should be added only after direct records distinguish him from same-name Hall men. - Louise Hall: Louise Hall was a teenage daughter in 1900. The current local proof set does not yet provide a safe adult identification. - Sallie Hall: Sallie Hall was the youngest daughter listed in 1900. Her adult trail remains open in the current local proof set.
Where a child's adult trail is not identified here, the gap is intentional. The page should wait for a marriage, death, cemetery, obituary, probate, later census, or other direct record before naming a later spouse or descendant line.
Historic Family Line
Bolin Green Hall belongs to the same early Hall family line. Huxford identifies Bolin as a son of Col. Enoch Hall and Enoch's first wife, Sallie Self Hall. Huxford also identifies Enoch as the son of Sion Hall and Bridget "Beady" Hall, making Bolin a grandson of the early Sion Hall whose Coffee Road home stood near present Morven.
This makes the Bolin Hall household more than a farm family entry in the 1900 census. It is a surviving branch of the family associated with the Coffee Road, the first Lowndes County court sessions, the Hall inn near Morven, early militia leadership, and the old Hall home place that Huxford traced back to the opening of the road in 1823.
Bolin also connects directly to the next Barney generation. His son Arthur P. Hall appears nearby as a separate 1900 household, and his half-brother Sion L. Hall appears as a Barney merchant in HH#7. The census therefore shows three layers of the Hall line close together: Bolin's older farm household, Sion L. Hall's merchant household, and Arthur P. Hall beginning his own household.
Source note: this section is based on Folks Huxford, The History of Brooks County, Georgia, 1858-1948, especially the Coffee Road, Morven, and Col. Enoch Hall passages.
Family Narrative
- Head: Bolin Green Hall, age 62 in 1900, born May 1838 in Georgia, farmer.
- Wife: Julia Phillips Hall, age 52 in 1900, born Jan 1848 in Georgia.
- 1900 household facts: Married about 35 years; Julia reported 10 children born and 10 living; Bolin could read and write; the farm was owned free of mortgage.
- Children in the 1900 household: Enoch Harrison, Chloe Ann, Arthur P., Thomas Gilette, Ophelia, Florence, John Phillips, Lorena, Louisa, and Sarah Hall.
- Identity chain: The preserved census sequence from 1850, 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910 strongly supports the same Bolin Hall household despite small name-form variation.
- Marriage and Phillips bridge: The current research trail supports a Brooks County marriage for Bolin Hall and Julia Phillips dated 25 Mar 1866. User-supplied 1850 and 1860 census images for Julia Phillips, plus her 1924 death certificate, strongly support Levi Phillips as her father.
- Mother-name boundary: Julia's death certificate does not independently confirm her mother's name. The mother remains best supported through the 1850 and 1860 census chain as Cloe or Clara Phillips.
- Military and burial evidence: The War Department headstone application and positive Hall Cemetery memorials materially strengthen Bolin's military unit, burial place, and 1918 death trail.
- Date conflict: The headstone application gives 22 Oct 1918 while the memorial shows 21 Oct 1918. That discrepancy should remain visible until a direct death record resolves it.
Military Service
The War Department headstone application identifies Bolin G. Hall as a private in Company F, 12th Georgia Infantry, providing direct support for Confederate service. The same military-burial trail strengthens his Hall Cemetery placement, though the 21 October versus 22 October 1918 death-date conflict should remain explicit.
Connections to Other Barney Families
- HH#7 Sion L. Hall: Strong family connection. The preserved research trail treats Sion L. Hall as Bolin Hall's half-brother.
- HH#34 Arthur P. Hall: Direct father-son connection. Arthur P. Hall is one of the 1900 children in this household and appears as HH#34.
Research Notes
- The 1860 Alabama Bolling Hall lead still does not fit cleanly enough to use.
- The applicant name and exact extract details on the headstone application should be preserved more precisely in a later pass.
- Wider Phillips and Wheeler network claims beyond Levi Phillips remain partly dependent on derivative or summary material.
- Additional military, pension, and cemetery-survey citations should be re-pulled if the entry is expanded beyond the present evidence base.
Open Research Questions
- Parentage audit: confirm both parents of the household head for HH#33 through direct or near-direct records where possible; mark derivative-only parent links as unresolved until supported.
- Child census audit: confirm every child named in the 1900 household against later census, marriage, death, obituary, cemetery, probate, or draft records; separate proven child links from same-name candidates.
- Other household member audit: verify boarders, servants, in-laws, stepchildren, grandchildren, and unrelated residents in HH#33; document the exact relationship instead of assuming kinship.
- Spouse and marriage audit: locate marriage records, death records, divorce records, or later census records for spouses or absent spouses tied to this household.
- Direct image review: re-check the 1900 census image and any cited index-only sources before treating ages, relationships, birthplaces, or name spellings as final.
Research Status
- Status: Materially strengthened; not yet fully source-exhausted.
- Strengths: Strong multi-census chain, direct Julia Phillips pre-marriage support, a cited 1866 marriage record, positive burial support, and a direct connection to HH#34.
- Remaining cautions: 1918 death-date conflict persists, and broader Phillips/Wheeler expansion still needs direct-record tightening.
