Family Narrative

Wife: Lucy Wright, age 20, born January 1880 in Georgia. Lucy was Lucy Lightsey before marriage. She is securely identified as the daughter of Thomas Lightsey and Elizabeth Lightsey of HH#12.

Children identified from verified household records: - Allice Wright, daughter, age 3 in 1900, born about 1897 in Georgia. - Thomas Wright, son, age 1 in 1900, born about 1899 in Georgia. - Alice B. Wright, daughter, age 14 in 1910, born about 1896 in Georgia. - Tommie Wright, son, age 12 in 1910, born about 1898 in Georgia. - Eva May Wright, daughter, age 4 in 1910 and Eva Wright, daughter, age 14 in 1920, born about 1905-1906. - Jessie or Jesse J. Wright, son, age 10 in 1920 and age 20 in 1930, born about 1909-1910 in Florida.

Assessment:

The link between HH#12 and HH#13 is proven. Lucy Lightsey of the Thomas Lightsey household is the same Lucy Wright who appears in 1900 Barney, 1910 Washington County, 1920 Newark, 1930 Newark, and the 1937 NUMIDENT record. The family moved from Brooks County into the Florida turpentine belt and then to Newark during the early twentieth-century labor migration.

George Wright is securely identified as Lucy's husband through the 1920 census. After that point, the record becomes less certain. The strongest current reading is that George either died or was otherwise absent before the 1930 census, because Lucy appears in Newark as a widow. A 1930 George Wright in Wilkes County, Georgia, and later 1940 and 1950 Georgia candidates remain unproven and should not be folded into this household without a direct bridge.

Connections to treat cautiously:

Lucy is tied to HH#12 through primary records. Wider claims linking this household to the Betts family or to a specific Flournoy sibling group remain unresolved and should not be stated as proven. George's parentage also remains unsettled. A FamilySearch tree and a plausible 1880 Brooks County household suggest Berry Wright and Catharine Mahaila Lampkins as candidate parents, but a World War I draft card from Newark names George's nearest relative as his mother, Mrs. Sallie Gibson, in Georgia. No direct record yet resolves that conflict.

Connections to Other Barney Families

  • HH#13 to HH#12 Thomas Lightsey: Lucy Wright in this household is securely identified as Lucy Lightsey, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Lightsey of HH#12.

Research Notes

  • Newark city directories for the key years are known to exist, but the relevant Wright entries and page images have not yet been extracted.
  • Newark and Essex County death coverage is still incomplete at the image-record level. OCR and cemetery-transcription passes were useful but not enough to close the case on George, Lucy, or Jesse.
  • The child-forward work is promising but still indirect. Alice B. Wright likely continued as Alice B. McKinnis in Newark, and Jesse J. Wright has plausible later candidates, but no parent-naming marriage, death, or Social Security record has yet locked either trail to this household.
  • Lucy's life after her March 1937 Social Security application remains open because her death or later continuation has not yet been proved.
  • George's parentage remains unresolved until a direct bridge is found between the Berry/Catharine candidate line and the Sallie Gibson draft-card lead.

Open Research Questions

  • Parentage audit: confirm both parents of the household head for HH#13 through direct or near-direct records where possible; mark derivative-only parent links as unresolved until supported.
  • Child census audit: confirm every child named in the 1900 household against later census, marriage, death, obituary, cemetery, probate, or draft records; separate proven child links from same-name candidates.
  • Other household member audit: verify boarders, servants, in-laws, stepchildren, grandchildren, and unrelated residents in HH#13; document the exact relationship instead of assuming kinship.
  • Spouse and marriage audit: locate marriage records, death records, divorce records, or later census records for spouses or absent spouses tied to this household.
  • Direct image review: re-check the 1900 census image and any cited index-only sources before treating ages, relationships, birthplaces, or name spellings as final.

Research Status

Well-researched, not Source-Exhausted. The core household path is solid, especially for Lucy Lightsey Wright. The remaining work is concentrated in a short list of still-open source classes rather than broad uncertainty.

FindAGrave and cemetery note:

No accepted burial or FindAGrave match has yet been found for George Wright, Lucy Wright, or Jesse Wright in the online material reviewed during this pass.

  • 🟡 Well-researched, not Source-Exhausted. Proven Lucy Lightsey connection and strong 1900-1937 household chain, with remaining blockers in Newark directories, death coverage, child-forward proof, and George's parentage.
