Isom Barney Ingram
Back to the contemporary-reports table
Identity grade: Strong probable
Isom Barney Ingram is strongly identified as the I. B. Ingram who appeared in a 1903 Barney business report.
Barney connection
The report uses I. B. Ingram. The local farmer was commonly recorded as Isom Barney or Barney Ingram, producing the B. I./I. B. initial-order conflict that prevents a verified grade.
Census and civil record
The 1900 census records him as Benny Ingram, age thirty-five, farmer, in Barney household 168. The household and later local research establish the civil identity even though the newspaper initials are reversed.
Military review
Born about 1864, he was too young for ordinary Confederate service. No later service was proved.
Evidence limits
A deed, tax entry, business record, or second newspaper using I. B. for Isom Barney Ingram would resolve the initial-order problem.
