Henry appears in the 1900 Barney census under the difficult surname form indexed by Ancestry as Henry Lee Or See. The same household names his wife as Fannie Lee Or See and places Herman Mitchell with them as a boarder. The strongest record trail for Henry uses several surname forms: Lee, See, Sea, and Seay. Race and birthplace also vary across records. Those differences should be preserved as part of the evidence rather than smoothed into one uniform identity.
A likely earlier Henry appears in the 1880 Quitman, Brooks County household of Angeline See. That record lists Henry See, age 13, as Angeline’s son, with other sons Mathew, Jackson, Augustus, Robert, David, and Jasper. It supports a Henry-and-Angeline relationship, but it does not prove every later Seay family claim found in derivative trees.
A candidate childhood record was also reviewed in the 1870 Madison County, Florida census. It places Angeline W. Lee, age 26, and Henry Lee, age 4, in Madison County. This record fits the Madison, Florida birthplace and Angeline mother pattern seen in Henry’s 1934 death material, but it is not a direct bridge to the 1880 Brooks County Angeline See household. The 1870 entry should remain a candidate clue, not a settled identification.
Henry married Fannie Exom in Brooks County on 4 October 1894. The 1910 Barney census then lists Henry Sea, age 40, born Florida, with wife Fannie and children Olvie, Dollie, and Jessie. The 1910 household is the clearest direct bridge for those three children.
Henry’s 1934 Georgia death entry strengthens the Henry-and-Angeline connection. FamilySearch indexes him as Henry Sea, age 68, born Madison, Florida, a farmer, with mother Angeline Sea. The FamilySearch original-document viewer text gives the death place as Brooks County, Georgia, with cemetery wording as Wesleys Chappel and burial place as Berlin, Georgia. A certificate-viewer screenshot was reviewed, but the handwriting and OCR were not strong enough to support a fully normalized transcription of every field.
Connections to Other Barney Families
The direct record trail supports Henry’s connection to Angeline See/Sea/Lee and to Fannie Exom/Seay. Broader Angeline Seay ancestry claims in online trees remain leads unless direct records are pulled and reconciled.
Adult-child trails are uneven:
- Ike Seay is not in Henry and Fannie’s 1900 or 1910 household, but his 1936 Georgia death record names his parents as Henry Seay and Fannie Seay. This is the strongest parent-naming adult-child evidence found so far.
- Olvie Sea/Seay appears as Henry and Fannie’s daughter in 1910. Fresh searches found the 1910 parent-naming census, but no accepted adult trail. Later Ola, Olas, Ola See, and Olive candidates lack a bridge to Henry and Fannie.
- Dollie Sea/Seay appears as Henry and Fannie’s daughter in 1910. A 1930 Brooks County record places Dollie Seay, age 21, in the same Tallokas household cluster as Jessie W. Seay, where she is indexed as his sister. This supports a likely Dollie/Jessie sibling trail, but it still does not name Henry and Fannie as parents. Later Dollie or Dolly Seay obituary and cemetery material remains derivative or unbridged.
- Jessie Sea/Seay appears as Henry and Fannie’s infant son in 1910. The adult trail is plausible: Jessie W. Seay appears in Tallokas in 1930 with Dollie Seay nearby; Jesse Seay married Lorene Cobb in Brooks County on 14 January 1932; Jessie/Jesse Seay appears in Brooks County in 1940 with wife Bessie and children, in 1950 in Tallokas with wife Pearl and children, and in the 1966 Georgia death index as Jessie W. Seay, died 2 May 1966 in Brooks County. A fresh FamilySearch parent-search found the 1910 parent-naming census and the same adult candidates, but no adult record extracted so far names Henry and Fannie as his parents.
Research Notes
- The earlier entry’s source-exhausted framing is not supported by the current source trail. The status is therefore Source-Researched / not source-exhausted.
- Henry’s reported birthplace varies: Georgia in 1880 and 1900, Florida in 1910, and Madison, Florida in the 1934 death material.
- The 1930 Tallokas record for Henery Seay, age 60, widowed, remains a strong candidate by name, place, age, and proximity to Jessie and Dollie records, but it has birthplace/race inconsistencies and no spouse or parent bridge.
- Fannie Exom/Seay remains unresolved after 1910. A Mrs Fanny Seay death-index entry, died 24 January 1936 in Colquitt County, Georgia, certificate 640, was found. FamilySearch tree attachment labels her as Fannie Exum, but the index itself gives no spouse, parents, age, or Brooks/Barney bridge. A 1920 Colquitt County widowed Fannie Sea with daughter R. B. Sea born Alabama was also reviewed and not accepted. A 1937 Robert Seay death-index hit names mother Fannie Seay, but without a father, Brooks/Barney locality bridge, or household continuity, it remains only a lead.
- The 1890 Brooks County tax-digest lead was searched again, but no usable image or citation was recovered in this pass.
- Herman Mitchell’s relationship to Henry and Fannie remains unknown.
- Geneanet/adflynn tree claims about Angeline’s parents and Henry’s father remain derivative leads only.

Research Status
Status: Source-Researched / not source-exhausted.
Strengths: The 1880, 1900, 1910, marriage, and 1934 death-index/viewer records support a coherent Henry See/Sea/Seay trail tied to Angeline and Fannie Exom. Ike Seay’s 1936 death record directly names Henry Seay and Fannie Seay as parents. Jessie and Dollie have a plausible later Brooks County trail, but it remains partly circumstantial.
Remaining cautions: Fannie after 1910 is not proved. Olvie has no accepted adult trail. Dollie and Jessie lack parent-naming adult records. The 1930 Henery Seay record is still candidate-level. The 1870 Madison County Angeline W. Lee/Henry Lee record is a useful lead but not a direct bridge. The 1890 tax-digest image or citation has not been recovered.
