Family Narrative
Albert Love is securely documented in the 1900 census at Barney, Brooks County, Georgia. That entry shows a Black man born in North Carolina in May 1865, single, renting a house, and working as a turpentine laborer. He was living alone, and the census states that both of his parents were born in North Carolina. At present, this 1900 household is the only firm record anchor for the Albert Love of HH#75.
Earlier and later census candidates have been reviewed, but none can be accepted as the same man on the present evidence. An 1880 census record for Albert S. Love in Ball Ground, Murray County, Georgia, should be rejected because that individual was white, born in Georgia, and living in a household that does not match the 1900 Barney profile. The 1910 Albert Love in Attapulgus, Decatur County, Georgia, was reported as born in Florida, with a Florida-born mother. Those birthplaces differ from the 1900 Barney entry. His reported three-year marriage to Sarah A. Love is compatible with being single in 1900. Whether the two entries describe the same man remains unresolved.
Because no other primary record has been found that fits the 1900 Albert Love securely, the household should remain a narrow census-based entry. The 1900 census does place him within the turpentine labor population in Barney, but there is not enough evidence to reconstruct his earlier family, trace him forward with confidence, or connect him to any other Love household.
Open Research Questions
- Parentage audit: Keep head-of-household and spouse parentage as unresolved unless a cited direct record names the parents or the entry explains the census chain supporting the identification.
- Other household member audit: Verify every non-nuclear household member, including in-laws, boarders, servants, laborers, uncles, grandchildren, and collateral relatives, before treating the stated relationship as part of the proved family structure.
- No secure 1910 or later census follow-up has been found for the Albert Love of HH#75.
- No marriage record has been found for Albert Love.
- No death, burial, or probate record has been found for Albert Love.
- No local Brooks County labor, tax, or residence record has yet been identified for him outside the 1900 census.
Research Status
Limited evidence. Albert Love is firmly documented in the 1900 Barney census, but the 1880 candidate has been rejected and the 1910 candidate remains unresolved. Until a later death, burial, marriage, or census record is found that matches the 1900 profile, his identity beyond that single household remains unresolved.
