This section is reserved for later-life child evidence. No later spouse, death, burial, obituary, probate, separate household, or descendant-line identification has been added here yet from direct records.

Family Narrative

This household is now much firmer than it looked on first review. The 1880 census places Calvin L. McKinney, age 7, in District 1311, Berrien County, Georgia, in the household of James W. McKinney and Julia A. McKinney, with siblings Ada O., William W., and Carlos T. By 1900, the Barney census shows the same man under a different form, Luther McKinie, age 25, renting a house in Brooks County and working as "Laborer Tables", with wife Priscilla and daughter Katie, age 3. The odd spelling "McKinie" fits the usual census-transcription drift rather than a separate surname.

The marriage record ties that Barney household together cleanly. A user-supplied Brooks County marriage certificate shows Luther McKinney and Priscilla Berryhill joined in matrimony on 6 Nov 1895. The 1910 census then shows Calvin L McKinney, age 36, still in Barney, Brooks County, with wife Priscilla McKinney, age 41, and daughter Katie Lou McKinney, age 13. In 1920 the family appears in Greggs, Cook County, where C L McKinney, age 46, is listed with wife Pricilla McKinney, age 50, daughter Katie Lou McKinney, age 23, and grandson Charlie Howell, age 2. Those four censuses give a coherent county-to-county progression and confirm that the daughter's fuller name was Katie Lou by 1910.

The later-life burial evidence also holds. FindAGrave memorial #74217594 identifies Luther McKinney, born 22 Sep 1872, died 21 Jun 1928, buried at Antioch Cemetery, Adel, Cook County, Georgia. The same memorial links spouse Priscilla A McKinney and lists parents James W McKinney (1853-1921) and Julia Ann Norman McKinney (1855-1926). Memorial #74217611 identifies Priscilla A McKinney, born 2 Nov 1869, died 29 Oct 1954, buried beside him at Antioch Cemetery.

What changed here is not that the old "RESEARCH COMPLETE" label suddenly became justified. It did not. What changed is that the household now has direct support across 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, the 1895 marriage record, and both memorials. That is enough to restore a broader continuity narrative. What still remains unsettled is the exact fully spelled-out name Calvin Luther McKinney. The records checked in this pass show Calvin L., C L, and Luther, which makes the synthesis very plausible, but I still have not seen a directly checked primary record spelling out the whole combined form.

So the household is best described as substantially verified, but not fully source-exhausted. The false negative FindAGrave claim is gone. The family trail from Berrien County to Barney and then to Cook County now stands on real evidence. What still needs closing is the exact full-name proof, the Berryhill obituary citation chain, the daughter's later identity, and the relationship path behind grandson Charlie Howell.

Open Research Questions

  • Parentage audit: confirm both parents of the household head for HH#24 through direct or near-direct records where possible; mark derivative-only parent links as unresolved until supported.
  • Child census audit: confirm every child named in the 1900 household against later census, marriage, death, obituary, cemetery, probate, or draft records; separate proven child links from same-name candidates.
  • Other household member audit: verify boarders, servants, in-laws, stepchildren, grandchildren, and unrelated residents in HH#24; document the exact relationship instead of assuming kinship.
  • Spouse and marriage audit: locate marriage records, death records, divorce records, or later census records for spouses or absent spouses tied to this household.
  • Direct image review: re-check the 1900 census image and any cited index-only sources before treating ages, relationships, birthplaces, or name spellings as final.

Research Status

  • Status: Substantially verified.
  • Strengths: Four censuses, the marriage record, and both memorials support the household.
  • Remaining cautions: Exact full-name proof and downstream family details still need follow-up.
