Robert Paxson
Back to the contemporary-reports table
Identity grade: Strong probable
Robert Paxson is strongly identified as the 1899 smallpox victim associated with Barney's milling economy and as a brother of Charles Dorothus Paxson.
Barney connection
A sequence of August and September 1899 reports uses Paxson, Paxon, and Paxton. The Atlanta report calls the patient R. Paxton and names C. D. Paxton as his brother. The broader Macon sequence supplies Robert.
Census and civil record
Robert died before the 1900 census. Charles Dorothus Paxson's dossier supplies the Barney family bridge and the broader Paxson household history. Robert's own age and complete civil record have not been recovered.
Military review
No service was proved. Robert's age is unknown, so same-name military records cannot be graded reliably.
Evidence limits
The identification rests on the unusual surname, brother C. D., event sequence, and Barney mill context. A death, probate, cemetery, or family record explicitly joining Robert and Charles would make it verified.
