Back to the contemporary-reports table

Identity grade: Strong probable

Minnie A. McKinnon is strongly identified as the Hahira teacher who went to Barney for the 1899–1900 school term.

Barney connection

The Valdosta Times said the school east of Barney would be in Miss Minnie McKinnon's hands. The Atlanta Constitution reported that Miss McKinnon of Hahira had gone to Barney to take charge of a school.

Census and civil record

The 1900 census records Minnie A. McKinnon in Hahira and Minnie McKennan in Dixie, Brooks County. Both entries give February 1873 as the birth month and year. The exact name, Hahira origin, and Barney-area presence strongly favor one woman enumerated twice.

Military review

No military-service allegation applies to this civilian teacher.

Evidence limits

The duplicate-enumeration and household relationship have not been joined by an original teacher license or family record. She is not Minnie Adelia Culbreth; the women had different ages, households, and teaching periods.
