Janie Joyce

Identity grade: Strong probable
Janie Joyce, who died near Barney in September 1901, is strongly identified as the daughter of John Wesley P. Joyce and Catharine V. Harrington Joyce recorded in 1880 as infant Rachel J. Joyce.
Barney connection
The death notice calls Janie the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Joyce and says she was buried at the old camp grounds near Morven. A cemetery record gives April 24, 1880 to September 28, 1901.
Census and civil record
The 1900 census records Jannie Joyce, born April 1880, as a niece in A. T. Cook's Valdosta household. The 1880 Brooks census records John and Catharine Joyce with one-month-old Rachel J. Joyce, whose age matches an April 1880 birth.
Military review
No military-service allegation applies to this civilian identity.
Evidence limits
The evidence does not explain whether Janie was a middle name, nickname, or later-used name for Rachel J. The exact birth timing and parent bridge are strong, but the unexplained name change prevents a verified grade.
