Elizabeth Wells Joyce
Back to the Foster Profiles index
Elizabeth Wells Joyce was the widow of James J. Joyce, also recorded as Jackson Joyce with strong-probable confidence. Her connection to Foster is part of Land Lot 227's earlier title history, not the later naval-stores business.
A public historical-map file assigns Elizabeth 175 acres in Lot 227 in 1861 and again in the 1869, 1871, and 1872 tax lists. Those entries are derivative leads. The underlying tax pages, estate division, deed, or court return has not been located, so the acreage and boundaries are not yet proved from an original instrument.
Nothing found shows that Elizabeth founded Foster, operated its post office, or participated in McNeil & Rozier. The verified 1890 Croft deed concerns about 325 acres on the north side of the lot. The relationship between that tract and the reported Joyce acreage remains unresolved.
The full evidence, identity analysis, searches, and sources appear in the James J. and Elizabeth Wells Joyce land dossier.
