Simeon Strickland¶
Simeon Strickland was in South Georgia by 1826. A Lowndes County deed executed that June was witnessed by Simeon and Simpson Strickland. In 1837 Simpson swore that he had seen Simeon sign the instrument. The deed verifies that the two men were personally associated, although it does not call them brothers.
The original 1830 Thomas County census names a household head whose surname is best read as Stricklen, and the original 1850 Lowndes schedule names Simeon Strickland, age 44, a Georgia-born farmer. Later district records place him as a justice of the peace in the 659th, or Nankin, District in 1832–1833. That placement is strong secondary evidence pending inspection of the underlying commission or court record.
The Ray City History Blog identifies Simeon as Simpson's brother and both men as sons of Archibald and Luander Strickland. Archibald's 1820 Tattnall County household contained three boys ages 10–15, which fits the proposed family, and the 1826 deed independently places Simeon and Simpson together. The relationship is secondary-supported, not verified, because no inspected original record names them as brothers or sons.
No Strickland in the canonical Barney census pages is presently connected to Simeon or Simpson. The 1900 Stephen Elias Strickland household and the 1920 Shelley Lee Strickland household trace to other reconstructed branches.
