Priscilla Jane Folsom

Priscilla Jane Folsom was living in Lowndes County by 1850. That census records Priscilla J., about thirty, in Ebenezer J. Folsom's household. The 1860 Brooks County census continues the same family as E. J. and Priscilla J. Folsom with their children, including four-month-old Israel. Neither census states household relationships.

Land and household record

A Brooks County deed index gives her full name in an official contemporary record. Nathan S. McCall conveyed 485 acres in District 13, Land Lot 106 to Priscilla Jane Folsom by warranty deed dated January 15, 1861. The index establishes the parties, property, date, and recording reference. The underlying deed text has not been inspected for its consideration or other terms.

By 1870, Jane Folsom headed the continuing Brooks County household. The 1880 census identifies P. J. Folsom as Israel L. Folsom's mother, directly verifying that relationship. Tax and deed indexes also document her as a Brooks County property holder during the 1870s and 1880s.

The 1900 Quitman census records Jane Folsom as widowed and reports that she had borne eleven children, four of whom were living. It gives her birth as January 1826. That conflicts with the derivative cemetery dates of February 14, 1820, to August 17, 1903, so her exact birth date remains unverified.

Name and family assessment

The census chain and land record verify the identity Priscilla Jane Folsom. The 1880 census verifies that she was Israel Lee Folsom's mother. Her identification as Ebenezer Folsom's wife is strong probable from the continuous household record, but no original marriage license or return has been located.

The maiden surname Rogers is secondary-supported by cemetery and compiled family material. Every official record inspected in this study names her as Folsom. No inspected deed, estate paper, guardianship bond, census entry, or marriage record names her parents or connects her to James Rogers, Thomas F. Rogers, Uriah Rogers, Isaac J. Rogers, or Joseph J. Rogers.

Priscilla belongs on the supplemental early-settler and family-bridge roster because she was individually named in Lowndes County by 1850 and later held land in Brooks County. Her exact arrival year and any direct residence in the later Barney townsite remain unproved.

Evidence assessment

  • Priscilla Jane Folsom: verified.

  • Wife of Ebenezer Folsom: strong probable.
  • Rogers maiden surname: secondary-supported.
  • Parents and connection to the other Rogers families: unresolved.
  • Exact 1820–1903 dates: derivative and not original-record verified.
