Nancy King: widow and dower claimant

Nancy King is named in a reproducible 1857 court locator as Willis King's widow. The locator ties her to a dower proceeding involving land in Districts 12 and 15, including territory that became Brooks County. Because the original minute-book pages remain uninspected, both the relationship and land claim are strong probable, not verified.

The 1857 dower application

A locator for Lowndes County Superior Court Minutes Book A, pages 49–51, records Nancy King's dower application dated October 19, 1857. The locator identifies her as the widow of Willis King and covers land in Districts 12 and 15.

This is more than a spouse's name in a later genealogy. If the locator accurately represents the original proceeding, the dower application reflects Nancy's own legal claim to an interest in the marital real property after Willis's death. The relationship and proceeding remain locator-anchored and strong probable until the original pages are inspected.

Connection to future Brooks County

Willis King's indexed land chain includes District 12, Lots 435 and 268, both in present-day Brooks County. Nancy's dower application spans Districts 12 and 15. The exact tracts included in her claim and their final disposition require the original court record, but the locator gives her an evidence-based connection to the future county's land history.

Evidence status

  • Strong probable from a reproducible court locator: Nancy was Willis King's widow and filed a dower application on October 19, 1857.
  • Locator-anchored: the reported legal claim involved land in Districts 12 and 15.
  • Unresolved: maiden name, parents, children, residence, the exact property schedule, and the outcome of the dower proceeding.

See the Willis King profile for the indexed land chain and the limits of the traditional 1823 relocation account.
