Mills or Miles M. Brinson (born about 1812)

Back to the Early History Profiles index

Conclusion

Roster status: supplemental Lowndes settler, with future-Brooks geography not yet proved.

Barney relevance: broader-area context; no direct Barney connection or descendant bridge is proved.

Evidence

An original 1850 Lowndes County schedule names Miles M. Brinson, age thirty-eight, Georgia-born farmer, with real estate valued at $11,000. The household begins with Sarah H. E. Brinson, age thirty-four, followed by children. The index form “Miles” and Huxford's “Mills” should be retained as variants until another signed or original record controls the spelling.

The original 1840 schedule has an indexed locator for Mills M. Brinson in Lowndes County, but the exact handwritten row has not been independently read. Lowndes deed extracts identify Mills M. Brinson in several instruments. The most useful early transaction is a September 3, 1841 conveyance of three acres in District 15 to trustees of Forest Grove Baptist Church. Later deeds place Mills in Valdosta property transactions and associate him with William T. Brinson. Those later records support continuity but do not prove the 1838 arrival or a future-Brooks residence.

Huxford lists M. M. Brinson among people arriving in 1838 and later lists Mills M. Brinson as a Lowndes state senator in 1859. These are secondary claims and do not substitute for the underlying election and residence records.

Identity and Barney bridge test

Mills/Miles remains separate from Cyprian Brinson, Mills B. Brinson, William T. Brinson, and other same-surname men. No Brinson household appears in the 1900 Barney roster, and no generation-by-generation path to a later Barney resident was found. The surname match alone supplies no Barney relevance.

The reviewed Cyprian and Mills/Miles land chains do not reach a person-specific future-Brooks parcel, and no inspected record proves that the two men were related. A blocked 1850 newspaper lead involving Cyprian, William, and Stephen Brinson does not identify Mills/Miles and cannot bridge the branches.
