Archibald Strickland¶
Archibald Strickland's connection to the future Brooks County area rests on strong secondary evidence. Folks Huxford's account of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church names Archibald and Luander Strickland among the congregation's organizing members in 1826 and identifies Archibald as a deacon. The original minute book has not been inspected.
The original 1820 Tattnall County census records Archibald with three boys ages 10–15. Simpson and Simeon Strickland were each about fourteen and fit that household structure. A later Ray City History Blog account explicitly identifies Simpson as a son of Archibald and Luander and Simeon as Simpson's brother. An original 1826 Lowndes deed independently places Simpson and Simeon together as witnesses. Taken together, the evidence supports the father-and-sons reconstruction as secondary evidence, but no inspected original record states the relationships.
The 1850 Ware County census names Archibald, age 64, born in North Carolina, with $300 in real estate. A five-year-old Archibald appears in the same household and must remain a separate person. The elder Archibald's precise death and estate remain unresolved, and the surviving online Ware deed series begins too late to settle them.
No Strickland in the canonical Barney census pages is presently connected to Archibald through Simpson or Simeon. The identified Barney households belong to separate reconstructed branches.
