Family Narrative
Walter and Alice Wooten are securely documented in the 1900 census at Barney, Brooks County, Georgia. That record shows Walter as a Black farmer born in North Carolina in April 1869, with both parents also reported as born in North Carolina. Alice, his wife, was likewise born in North Carolina. The census states that the couple had been married sixteen years and were renting their farm. No children were present in the household.
Alice is documented again through her 4 January 1926 death certificate from Nashville, Berrien County, Georgia. That record identifies her as Alice Wooten, a Black married woman age fifty-seven, born in Sampson County, North Carolina, with parents named as Toney McDuffie and Claresy McDuffie. The certificate also gives her spouse as W. H. Wooten. Taken together, the 1900 census and the 1926 death record provide a reliable core profile for the household and establish Alice's maiden family as McDuffie.
The surviving evidence is useful but still limited. The present record set supports the Brooks County household in 1900 and Alice's later identification in Berrien County in 1926. It does not yet establish when Walter died, whether the couple remained together continuously after 1900, or whether any children were born to them and lived elsewhere.

Research Status
Moderately documented household. The 1900 census and Alice's 1926 death certificate give a solid foundation and identify Alice's maiden family, but the household still needs marriage, later census, and burial evidence before it can be treated as fully developed.
